North Narrabeen and Sydney

North Narrabeen and Sydney
We had booked into the Sydney Lakeside Caravan Park at North Narrabeen commencing on the Monday the 6th of August. After a 2.5 hour drive we arrived and checked in with the wind still blowing a gale and the temperatures showing 16 degrees. In comparison to Hobart it was feeling more like 11 degrees. The temperatures in mainland cities are taken some distance from the coast. In Hobart they are taken at the airport which is surrounded by the ocean. An inequity that always shows Hobart as cold when often its ambient temperature is warmer than southern mainland cities.

On the Tuesday I had an appointment at the ANMM with David Payne to discuss my volunteer work as well as David’s research in regard to PNG and surrounding Pacific Island boats and canoes. We caught the bus and ferry to the city and ANMM. David’s research and drawings, including technical drawings of the working rigging, plus the hull and outrigger structural drawings are exquisite.

After this meeting we met with my niece, Sarah Jane, at Circular Quay to ferry across the harbor to Neutral Bay, pick up her car and drive to my sister’s home in Roseville Chase for dinner. Maree had also invited my school and Seacliff SLSC mate Bob Evans to dinner, ably prepared by Mandy, my other niece, so it was a good catch up night reminiscing over family and surf lifesaving activities. Next day, we drove back to Sailors Bay Rd, Northbridge to see Mandy’s new art gallery called Gallery 307. What a credit to Mandy and the family such a beautiful gallery and school with some incredible exhibits and craft for sale. Well done to all.
It is time to move on down the South Coast to catch up with Chris in the Rally NSW at Batemans Bay. Then up to Jindabyne to be with the grandchildren.
