What a "Furphy"

Devils Marbles and Tennant Creek. Then New Castle Waters and on to Katherine.
Soon after visiting the Beanie Festival we headed off for the Devils Marbles. Just north of Barrow Creek and Wycliffe Well.  We arrived at approximately 4.00pm and were lucky enough to get the 2nd to last site in the Camping area. At $3.30 per head for the night who could want more. Well done NT Parks and Wild Life (including Conservation Parks). The light was fantastic for photos and it was a very pleasant evening.

In the morning we set off for Tennant Creek and to catch up with Ros and Dale Lindsay, of Relbia in the Launceston region. We arrived at Tennant Creek at approximately 11.0am and did some shopping at the local butcher and then rang Dale to ensure they would be at the Warego Mines. Could only leave a message but next thing they arrived next to our van as we had morning tea. After a great chat and listening to where they had fossicked along the way we think we discovered they had found no GOLD! Soon we agreed to travel North in company as they were making their way to Halls Creek WA and we were headed for Katherine NT.
After a few indecisions and a fair bit of RED BULLDUST down the Barkley Stock Droving Route we found a happy camp just before Newcastle Waters. Just as well one of the Stock Road Trains never appeared as we would have been wiped out in the red bulldust! It was a great stop and appeared to be an old road construction site some 4-5 ks just south of the Newcastle Waters road side stop. It was far enough off the road to reduce noise and in a site we cold stoke up the camp fire pot and get a bush stew under way. A couple of bottles of red, 2 glasses of G&T and some Bubbly everyone was happy and well fed. The stew was not too bad either!
Next morning, we were all packed up, said our good byes and we headed for Katherine and Ros and Dale headed for Mataranka.
We arrived in Katherine approximately 3.00pm after lunching in Mataranka and no sign of Ros n Dale. We booked into the Katherine Holiday Park, one of the best caravan park facilities I have ever seen and well worth the visit. From here we will do a bit of a clean up and have made our bookings for Darwin on Tuesday afternoon till Friday.
